Beacon Academy has submitted itself as a Covid-safe school and summer day camp for children ages 3 – 10 in Waterdown (the school year academy) and Burlington (the summer day camp), Ontario, Canada. Here’s what director Sara Mitchell has to say about Beacon Academy.
“I wanted to share my Covid-safe school / camp, Beacon Academy. We are based in Waterdown and Burlington Ontario, Canada. Beacon is mandatory N95 masking. Our indoor facility boasts 12 air changes per hour and our community agrees to regular rapid testing and daily symptom screening.”
The indoor school is housed in the Christian Bell-Young (“CBY”) Academy for the Performing Arts, and on Beacon Academy’s website they explain that “CBY has surgical-level clean air Jade units in the main room to deliver approximately 12 air changes per hour, as well as a MERV 13 HEPA filter in their 1-year old ventilation system which they run in ‘ventilation boost’ mode at all times.”
Other Covid precautions taken by Beacon Academy include:
– Two single occupancy bathrooms with ventilation
– Ms. Mitchell and all children wear N95s or equivalent (Ms. Mitchell has fit-tested her masks)
– Self-screening expected of all before each class with the option to reschedule or join in virtually
– Regular rapid testing (3x a week)
– Fully up-to-date vaccinations required
– Emphasis on general hygiene
– The core belief that Covid is an airborne virus that can be mitigated through manageable protections and a heavy emphasis on clean air.
