Dr. Richard Grundy, DDS, and his Logical Dentistry have been submitted as a Covid-safe dentist in Burke, Virginia, which is close to both Fairfax and Springfield, Virginia. Here’s what the person submitting Dr. Grundy and Logical Dentistry has to say:
“I just found an amazing Dentist in Burke, VA to recommend. They have been taking precautions since before Covid and will not be loosening them. Confirmed via phone call today.
– Everyone coming in has to wear shoe coverings, wear a mask & they are sprayed with a safe sanitation mist before and after treatment
– All rooms are private & have their own independent air supply system which pulls in outside air
– Doctor and staff wear helmet style PAPR that filters their in and out breath through hepa filters. They wear N95s under the PAPR for extra protection for themselves and you
– Hepa purifiers in all rooms with added UV-C system for disinfection
– Extraoral suction device that stays above your mouth to suck up aerosols
– Staff spray the room and themselves with a safe air sanitation mist after each appointment (HOCI)
– All surfaces & floors sanitized after each patient
– Staff protective wear is changed after each patient
– Use of sterilized distilled water (not public city water) in waterlines for all treatment, use of specialized cartridge to prevent waterline contamination
– Instruments & pouches that come out of an autoclave wet are NOT considered sterile. Their fractionated autoclave dries the instruments before they come out.

I went today for x-rays for tooth pain and sensitivity (I’m overdue for a cleaning — largely because the practice I’ve been going to for a decade dropped nearly all covid safety protocols). Right away, I was impressed by all the measures that they have in place and intend to KEEP in place to prevent the transmission of covid-19 as well as other infectious agents (cold, flu, RSV). As an immunocompromised person with many health issues stemming from immune problems, I was delighted and absolutely relieved to find this practice. I think they only have 1 patient in the office at a time as an additional safety measure. I didn’t experience extraoral suction device that stays above your mouth to suck up aerosols – probably because I was only there for x-rays and an exam. SO GRATEFUL to this practice for these safety measures as well as their kindness, compassion, care, and consideration. (Manager at previous practice is curt, bordering on rude and dismissive of my health concerns).
This place is legit. I have been for several visits now and always feel completely safe. All of the mitigations listed are actually happening. I’m moving about an hour and a half from this dentist soon, but I plan to continue as a patient here, despite the commute. The only downside is that this office does not do more advanced procedures like root canals, they will have to refer you to another provider, and there are no other providers in the area taking this level of safety precautions. Logical Dentistry has proven that safe medical care free from airborne virus transmission is possible. There is no legitimate reason why every medical facility should not be operated this way. Wish there were more doctors like Dr. Grundy.
If you are within 100 miles of this place and still looking for a covid safe dentist, this is the place to go.
i’m writing this comment in october 2023 after two appointments in about two weeks with dr. grundy. i had xrays, an exam, a cleaning, and 4 fillings done over two appointments.
i was so happy to find this practice, and even though it’s an hour+ drive in good traffic for us, it was worth it for the peace of mind i had being a patient there. everyone is so nice and all of the precautions listed are in place, and dr. grundy assured me they have no intention of ever loosening them, especially because the PAPRs keep the dentist/hygienists safe, as well. all of the other staff wear N95s or maybe KN94s, not entirely certain but they are high quality, well-fitted masks.
really, really impressive and it’s wonderful to know dentistry CAN be done safely if people are willing to put in the effort.
