Dr. Amy Boscia at Ithaca Eye Care Optometry has been recommended as a Covid-safe provider of optometry services in Ithaca, New York. The person who recommended Dr. Boscia explains that the staff are all masked with at least KN95 masks, and that they “require patients to mask at all times,” and that Dr. Boscia has a close family member who is at high risk, “so she understands precautions and is taking it seriously.”
In fact Dr. Boscia has a full page on her website devoted to outlining their Covid-safety protocols, which says:
All patients, visitors, and staff are still required to wear a mask or face covering, regardless of vaccination status. The New York State Department of Health is still recommending masks in health care settings. Out of an abundance of caution, we are adhering to this recommendation. We thank you for understanding.
Our staff will be wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including face shields and N95 masks. Each staff member has gone through extensive training on multiple sterilization techniques and disinfecting procedures. This is to ensure your safety, as well as our staff’s, and to provide peace of mind as we focus on your eye health.
Optical selections are to be made by appointment only. This will safeguard our patients and staff by limiting the number of people in the office.
We are still providing the opportunity for glasses selection. Each frame is sterilized prior to and after patient wear. Since frames directly contact the face, they require a higher level of sterilization method.
We are asking contact lens wearers having their annual checkup, to put the contacts in prior to arrival and to bring a pair of glasses to wear when exiting. This will eliminate unnecessary insertion and removal of lenses, limiting contact between hands, eyes, and face.
Though we will greet you in protective gear, you can expect the same smiles and warm greetings we always provide. Even though this remains a difficult time, we have not lost sight of our true purpose in helping our community. We look forward to seeing you!

I couldn’t find anything else on their website discussing Covid safety measures at all. Since there is another eye dr in Ithaca that still has “Covid-conscious days,” where certain days all staff and patients are required to mask, I’ll be looking into them. (Whole Picture Health and Vision.)
