Dr. Alexander Cox and his Scarsdale Smiles dental practice has been recommended as a Covid-safe, Covid-cautious dentist in Scarsdale, New York.
The Covid Policy page at Scarsdale Smiles is detailed and thorough, and says this:
COVID-19 Safety Measures
There is nothing of greater importance than ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients and our team. Our response to the COVID-19 outbreak has been comprehensive and meticulous. We have upgraded our safety protocols to exceed what is recommended by the American Dental Association (ADA), the Centers for DiseaseControl (CDC), and the Occupational and Safety Health Administration (OSHA). For those reasons, your experience at our new office will be different than it has been in the past. We want to update you of the many steps we are now taking, in our new office at 1 Palmer Avenue, suite 200 in Scarsdale.
Some of the measures we have implemented are:
Facility Enhancements– state of the art HEPA air purification
– contactless thermometer used to take temperature of both staff and all patients prior to entrance
– hand sanitizer readily available throughout the office
– all surfaces: door handles, bathrooms, light switches, etc. thoroughly wiped down after every single usage
– plexiglass shield installed at the reception desk
– limiting the number of people allowed in the reception area at one time
– all magazines, chargers, and toys removed to prevent cross contamination
– chairs in reception room set apart at appropriate distances
Upgraded Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)– N95/KN95 and surgical level masks for clinical team members
– gowns/lab coats that are cleaned and sterilized
– upgraded eye protection (goggles/face shields)
– level 3 and higher masks for administrative team members
Technological Improvements– mandatory pre screening form sent to patients prior to their appointment
– ability to pay copayment online
– “touchless” check out system (Apple Pay, self card insert, electronic receipts, etc.)
Scheduling Your Appointment:We have made some adjustments to our scheduling system. Appointments will be longer in time to accommodate new check in procedures and for extra infection control measures. To allow for social distancing, we will stagger the start of appointment times, and reserve certain times for our patients who are at high risk.
Before You Come In:We will send you a short, pre-screening form that you are required to fill out and return to us two days before you come in. If you or anyone in your household has exhibited any of the following during the prior 14 days, please call us toreschedule your appointment: Cough • Fever • Flu-like symptoms • Gastro-intestinal issues • Sore throat • Loss ofsense of smell or taste
Additionally, if you or a family member have traveled overseas, OR have potentially been exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, we ask you to call our office to delay your appointment.
***Please reconfirm your insurance benefits with your employer. We are finding that many dental plans have changed as a result of recent events.***
Day of Appointment:
If you will be more than 10 minutes late, you will need to reschedule your appointment. We will be strictly adhering to this policy. We ask you to arrive 5 minutes before your appointed time. Right went you enter, we will check your temperature with our “touchless” thermometer and reaffirm your answers on the prescreening form. If you have a temperature of over99.5, we will ask you to postpone your appointment.
Please wear a mask to enter our office from your car.
Our team will be wearing more protective gear than you are accustomed to seeing. Scrubs, surgical gowns, goggles, and gloves will be worn to offer the highest protection possible. While unfortunately more impersonal and masking our smiles while speaking with you, please know that this is all to keep everyone safe. Our smiles are still there under the masks, you’ll see it in our eyes!
The exam room will be thoroughly cleaned and sterilized before you enter. We will ask you to wash your hands or use hand sanitizer and swish with a disinfectant rinse for 30 seconds before your appointment begins.
At check-out, if there is a copay estimate due, you can either use our touchless credit card payment method or we can text you a secure link to pay via credit card. You can also write a check with sanitized pens that are available.
***If you experience any symptoms of COVID-19 within 7 days following your appointment or test positive, please call the office to alert us.***
While seemingly exhaustive, we want to keep you informed of everything we are doing to make your experience as safe as possible. PLEASE don’t hesitate to ask us any questions at all! We want you to feel as comfortable as possible.
We truly appreciate your cooperation and understanding with these many changes. We have always set the highest standards in the treatment that we provide to you and will always continue to do so for all members of our ScarsdaleSmiles Family!
In addition, we reached out to them and asked them if they still had all of these policies in place (as we have found that many sites contain Covid policies that are no longer being followed but were never updated to reflect as much), and here is what they said:
“As of January 1st, we are indeed following all the same Covid protocols in our office, except we are no longer taking temperatures (as it has not proven to be very effective) and sending a prescreening form two days ahead. Instead, the day before we send a reminder text asking anyone who has tested positive for Covid in the last 10 days, or if they or a family member are not feeling well, to postpone their appointment. Patients have been very compliant, which has been great. We also send a “friendly mask reminder” an hour before the patient comes in.”
