The Cancer Support Community (CSC) has been submitted as a Covid-safe provider of cancer support services for cancer patients, cancer survivors, and their family members. The Cancer Support Community offers many, if not most, of their services virtually online, and also has many in-person locations in California, Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Georgia, Michigan, Colorado, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Massachusetts, Florida, South Carolina, Montana, Arizona, Texas, Tennessee, Washington D.C., and Ontario, Canada. As the person who submitted the CSC points out, all of their community is by definition immunocompromised, or caring for someone who is immunocompromised, so they ‘get’ it when it comes to Covid.
The person who submitted them explains that “All services are free, and fully remote participation is welcome and easy. If you or someone in your family has cancer, you can attend a “welcome” session, and then join weekly or monthly support groups (tailored to adult/teen/children, whether you are the cancer patient or a family member, and the type of cancer), lifestyle and wellness classes, networking groups, and up to 10 individual counseling sessions (for individual, couples, and children).”
They go on to say that “Because participants are immunocompromised, almost everything is virtual. “Almost” because some locations offer *some* classes (e.g. yoga, workshops) in person at their local offices. You can view the calendar of events for any CSC location on the website to see in advance which events are on zoom and which are in person.”
The Cancer Support Community says of themselves that “We are a global non-profit network of 175 locations, including CSC and Gilda’s Club centers, hospital and clinic partnerships, and satellite locations that deliver more than $50 million in free support and navigation services to patients and families.
In addition, we administer a toll-free helpline, 888-793-9355, and produce award-winning educational and digital resources that, together with the locations, reach more than one million people each year.”
