Brenda MacIntyre of Medicine Song Woman Creations has submitted herself and her Medicine Song Woman Creations services as a Covid-safe host of Covid-conscious women’s events, a personal mentor, and a remote keynote speaker. Here’s what Brenda says about her Covid-safe services:
I’m submitting my business as a keynote speaker, personal mentor and host of COVID-conscious women’s events. Everything I do is virtual, except occasional hyperlocal keynote talks either outdoors or in covid-safer spaces. I wear a 3M Vflex N95 or Breatheteq KN95 everywhere outside my home and nobody is permitted to enter my home without an N95 on.
I am housebound with Long COVID and other disabilities. Though my entire business is virtual, in terms of my home, my daughter and I have 2 full-sized CR boxes, 2 large room HEPAs and 3 small HEPAs, and we wear an N95 or KN95 everywhere we go. I also have an Aranet 4 to monitor CO2 and humidity here and wherever I go. I create a little wind tunnel in here with open windows whenever the outdoor air quality is safe enough.
I have been Covid-conscious all along, and due to allergies, I already had 2 HEPAs before 2020 but apartment living gave me Covid in December 2019 and again in 2023. I volunteer with Covid-19 Resources Canada to help Covid-conscious folks get some mental health self-care, and to be part of helping the public stay informed on the latest Canadian Covid forecasts, mitigations expertise, and new research.
KEYNOTES & WORKSHOPS: For rare in-person gigs, I wear a 3M Vflex 1804 N95 for the best fit because I’m opening my mouth wide to sing. I always screen gigs according to my expected disability accommodations and Covid mitigations. I’ve been performing since 1985, speaking since 1999 and doing virtual presentations since 2010. For virtual gigs, I have my stage mic and other professional audio and video equipment. I work with voice and music to help people connect with themselves and ease emotional and physical pain.
ONE-ON-ONE MENTORING/HEALING: Since I have Long Covid with ME/CFS, I am honest about my capacity and I have a compassion clause in my one-on-one client agreements saying that either of us can cancel and reschedule last minute without any extra charge. It rarely happens but gives us leeway for emergencies, symptom flare-ups or low capacity. All private sessions are recorded and you get the replay and auto-captions. I walk my talk and have ongoing support as needed for many years now, for lifelong complicated grief and trauma.
VIRTUAL EVENTS: In my virtual events, cameras are either off (for my larger free events, to discourage potential trolls) or optional. We have at least one sharing circle, also optional. We always give a replay but we do not record sharing circles, for safety and privacy.
FEES: Most events are free or pay what you can. Our one-on-one services, workshops and keynotes range from $$$ to $$$$. We have solidarity rates for Indigenous, women’s and Covid-safe/Covid advocacy groups.
WHERE: Located in London Ontario, Canada, but all events and services are virtual.
ABOUT BRENDA: Brenda MacIntyre, also known by her Indigenous name Medicine Song Woman, has Cree and Ojibwe ancestry with Red River roots through her father, and settler ancestry through both parents. Adopted at birth in Calgary, Alberta and never told she was Indigenous, Brenda is on a journey of reconnecting with her Indigenous family and learning her languages and culture. Based in London Ontario, Canada, she is a trauma-informed, Covid-conscious, neurodivergent personal mentor, virtual keynote speaker and award-winning singer. Over 15 years ago, after losing her adoptive parents, Brenda developed her Sing Yourself Alive Program and Medicine Song Healing Technique. After her son was murdered in 2016, she created an album of 13 original songs for grief. In 2020, based on those songs and accessible mindfulness practices, she birthed her signature Picking Up the Pieces 13 Moon Program, now exclusively for Covid-conscious women and non-binary folks. Through her body of work, voice and hand drumming, Brenda helps midlife Covid-conscious women going through divorce, identity crisis or burnout to sleep better, have more energy, manage grief and trauma, and find their voice.
