Here’s how to still safely wear a mask to protect your health if your state has a mask ban. In June of 2024 North Carolina passed it’s mask ban. Other states and cities are now considering mask bans, such as New York and Chicago. In addition, several states have indoor mask bans, including Iowa, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Florida, Texas, Arkansas and Arizona, although in some of those states they are not being enforced.

This is important both because of course you are trying to be as Covid-safe as possible, and because if you have Covid you don’t want to have to leave your house to get diagnosed and treated.
The PAN Foundation (Patient Access Network Foundation) provides grants of financial assistance to help cover the cost of medical treatments and prescriptions for both chronic and rare diseases that your insurance doesn’t cover or only partially covers. They have a running list of both conditions and medications that are eligible at any given time. Sometimes the grants for a given condition are ‘open’ (i.e. available) and sometimes they are ‘closed’ (i.e. not available). So check, and if something is ‘closed’ or even not listed on the site at all, check back at another time.
The CDC offers a free online tool to determine your home ventilation or office ventilation needs (such as how many air purifiers do you need, how much air do they need to move, etc.) in order to keep your indoor areas safe and as free of concentrated Covid evil (nod to the Time Bandits) as possible.
The U.S. Federal government and the Biden administration have just announced a new round of free home Covid tests, effective on 12/15/22. Each household address can receive 4 rapid antigen tests (also known as “RAT”s) by filling out a simple form on the USPS (United States posts office) website. Thanks to a partnership between Orange County, California, and Picture Genetics, residents of the OC can have free at-home Covid 19 tests delivered directly to their homes. The tests are delivered by FedEx, and once you take the test you drop it off with FedEx as well, for processing by Picture Genetics.
At the start of the Covid pandemic, in 2020, the Federal government instituted many "regulatory flexibilities" to the provision of healthcare in the United States. including allowing for telehealth (telemedicine), and having telehealth covered by insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid. These regulatory flexibilities expire at the end of 2024!
This means that telehealth and telemedicine will not be available to people with Medicare or Medicaid, and may also not be available to you if you have private or employer-provided insurance.
The good news is that there are two laws up for consideration before Congress to make access to telehealth and telemedicine permanent - but as we have repeatedly seen in the past few years, we can't rely on Congress to do the right thing.
WE - all of us - need to write to our representatives and tell them to please pass the CONNECT for Health Act and the Telehealth Modernization Act! We need to create an email tsunami! So we have made it really easy to email all of your representatives at once!
